Research activities: Bridging knowledge gaps and networks
By strengthening the diagnostic and surveillance capacity of national plant protection organizations (NPPOs) and national agricultural research and extension services (NARES) in target countries, researchers are facilitating an exchange of knowledge on research approaches and tools/technologies for the detection and surveillance of pests and diseases.
Priorities include:
- Establishing a global diagnostic and surveillance network, leveraging existing partnerships and networks;
- Working with innovation partners to co-develop tools and methods for detection, monitoring, and mapping, measuring damage and analyzing populations of targeted pests and diseases;
- Creating a learning alliance for piloting methods and tools; and
- Increasing capacity of local institutions in detection and surveillance of a broad range of pests and diseases.
Read about the Initiative’s other focus areas:
- Building capability for risk assessment and data management
- Improving integrated pest and disease management
- Tools and processes for protecting food chains
- Equitable and inclusive scaling of plant health innovations to achieve impacts
