Resilient Cities

Research activities: Improving urban food environments and adolescent diets

The double burden of malnutrition (where overweight/obesity coexists with undernutrition) is prevalent in urban environments, and urban adolescents are amongst the most vulnerable groups. Resilient Cities researchers are working with local nutrition programs to characterize urban food environments and dietary behavior, developing new and efficient diagnostic tools suitable to the urban context. We are also building a global evidence base and guidelines for healthier urban food environments that will enable our partners to assess the costs, benefits and trade-offs of interventions aimed at low-income urban consumers.
