Researchers from the CGIAR Initiative on Nature-Positive Solutions (NATURE+) and IFPRI, who are examining true cost accounting in food systems, presented preliminary research results from Kenya and Vietnam. An engaging discussion pointed toward possible new collaborations between the Initiative, CGIAR Centers, and external researchers.
Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT recently held a virtual event titled Alliance Science Seminar: The hidden cost of food: How NATURE+ is adding up the food bill paid by society and the environment.
Rui Benfica and Kristin Davis, Senior Research Fellows at the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), led the well-attended event. The lively discussion following the presentation engaged scientists from the Alliance, IFPRI, CGIAR and some external research organizations.
“As we embark on this research, the overwhelming interest by researchers from different disciplines suggests that we have the opportunity to maximize the synergies and come up with a valuable contribution to promoting sustainable food systems that focus on nature-positive solutions,” Benfica said after the event.
