The CGIAR Achieving Agricultural Breakthrough: A Deep Dive into Seven Technological Areas Report intensively explores solutions to pressing global challenges in agriculture – challenges that must be overcome in order for climate-resilient, sustainable farming to be possible for millions of farmers in low- and middle-income countries by 2030. These small-scale farmers are disproportionately affected by increased floods, droughts, and other impacts of climate change.
It introduces five interconnected pathways to achieve these principles and highlights the role of international collaboration in advancing breakthrough technologies across seven priority areas. Importantly.
These breakthrough technologies offer a pathway towards a more sustainable, resilient, and environmentally friendly agriculture.
Click on each priority area for more insights.
- Reducing Emissions from Chemical Fertilizers: Cutting down on fertilizers’ carbon footprint is a game-changer, with strategies for field application and production processes.
- Alternative Proteins: A key to reducing emissions, water usage, and deforestation caused by livestock production.
- Food Loss and Waste (FLW): Addressing emissions and food wastage, a global issue with interventions across the entire value chain.
- Breeding Crops and Livestock: Developing climate-resilient crops and livestock for a changing world.
- Reducing Methane Emissions from Livestock: A focus on reducing methane emissions from the livestock sector, improving sustainability.
- Agroecological and Sustainable Approaches: Promoting natural processes to enhance efficiency, resilience, and sustainability.
- Digital Services in Agriculture: Leveraging technology to empower smallholder farmers and enhance climate-resilient practices.
