Biofortified staples may hold the key to india’s rural malnutrition

Micronutrient deficiency affects a large section of the Indian population, as it does in many developing countries. Biofortified staples can help improve diets. Scientists at the International Food Policy Research Institute are exploring the scope for introducing biofortified rice and wheat through a state-funded program targeting provision of staple foods at discounted prices to the poor in the eastern Indian states of Bihar and Odisha.
