The Climate, Food and Farming, Global Research Alliance Development Scholarships Programme (CLIFF-GRADS) is a joint initiative of the Global Research Alliance on Agricultural Greenhouse Gases (GRA) and the CGIAR Research Initiative on Low-Emission Food Systems. The CLIFF-GRADS Programme builds capacity in early-career scientists from low- and middle-income countries to conduct applied research in agriculture emission quantification and mitigation.
In the five rounds of scholarship, 176 Ph.D. candidates have received grants to further their research skills and establish international networks.
We are seeking expressions of interest from institutes and supervisors willing to host CLIFF-GRADS candidates.
Grants of US$12,000 will be awarded to Ph.D. candidates from developing countries for short research stays that will start in 2024. Research stays should be between four and six months in length, with preference given to those of six months duration.
Expressions of interest must offer research stays relevant to:
Measurement, modeling and mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions; or measurement, modeling and enhancement of carbon storage in agricultural systems relevant to developing countries.
When allocating the projects, preferences will be given to students applying for research stays outside of their home country.
Funding for CLIFF-GRADS grants is provided by the New Zealand Government and the CGIAR Trust Fund donors.
The deadline for submission of expressions of interest to host CLIFF-GRADS candidates is May 2, 2023.
Each host institution research supervisor should describe a proposed research stay using this survey, which can be found at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/P2DHGRP.
Contact cliffgrads@globalresearchalliance.org for any inquiries, including guidance for filling up the research stay proposal form.
