Capacity Strengthening training: ‘Analysing Economic Linkages Using Social Accounting Matrix’ at OUAT, Bhubaneswar, India

Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) and IFPRI organized a capacity strengthening training on “Analyzing Economic Linkages using Social Accounting Matrix” on 1st December 2023 in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. Dr. Karl Pauw, Dr. Barun Deb Pal, and Mr. Manmeet Singh Ajmani from IFPRI conducted the training.
The training started with an introductory session on Social Accounting Matrix (SAM), followed by some hands-on exercises on MS Excel to apply the teachings on SAM. The post lunch sessions were on India’s SAM, followed again by a hands-on session to acquaint the participants with some more calculations on SAM and the interpretations of the matrix.
The participants of this training were the faculties and students (PhD and Masters) from different departments of the agricultural sciences of OUAT (mostly from the department of agricultural economics). Out of 40 participants, 19 were women.
This work is part of the CGIAR Research Initiative on National Policies and Strategies (NPS). CGIAR launched NPS with national and international partners to build policy coherence, respond to policy demands and crises, and integrate policy tools at national and subnational levels in countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
