CGIAR’s Inclusive Workplace Awards recognized star individuals and teams who have made significant contributions to Gender, Diversity and Inclusion in our workplaces during an online ceremony on 15 November.

After careful deliberations by the judging panel, winners were announced across three categories from a staggering 150+ nominations submitted during August – October 2023.

Fiona Bourdin-Farrell,  CGIAR Global Director, People & Culture, welcomed participants and thanked them for joining to recognize and celebrate “the amazing contributions of colleagues who have been nominated for these awards by staff across CGIAR.”

“Something I have appreciated in this process has been seeing people identify their colleagues who embrace GDI culture,” said Lavanya Shrinagesh, CGIAR Director Gender equity, Diversity, Inclusion & Culture and an Inclusive Workplace Award judge. “It’s wonderful to see the positive difference they are making in their workplaces!”

CGIAR System Board Member and Board GDI Champion, Alice Ruhweza, introduced the event. Members of the judging panel, including external expert Monica Oldham, Global Head, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for the World Bank Group, shared the results and announced the winners:

Inclusive Team

“I was struck by the diversity within the nominations, across all categories,” said Oldham

“They came from many different Centers, there were scientists and professional and support staff, we saw different nationalities, genders and languages all represented.”

The numerous high-caliber nominations attest to the commitment many changemakers across CGIAR are making to move the needle on GDI every day by actively demonstrating inclusive behaviors.

Shrinagesh concluded the event by thanking the finalists, fellow judges and all of those who connected online in support of their colleagues.

“We know that creating inclusive workplaces is not only the right thing to do, it’s the smart thing to do,” said Shrinagesh. “It makes us more attractive as an employer and helps us retain the best talent.”
