Iita contributes to women’s empowerment in agriculture, research, and innovation

Every year, on the occasion of International Women’s Day, IITA–CGIAR organizes a special event that stands as a testament to the remarkable contributions of women in agriculture, research, and innovation. This year, the celebration commenced with a purposeful walk, setting the tone for the day. The event was further enriched by inspiring testimonies from women staff and farmers, underscoring the profound impact of IITA’s investments in their careers and lives.

During the event, the Head of People and Culture, Lilian Mendoza, celebrated women who continuously drive progress in their unique ways and make history. She emphasized that women should be celebrated every day, not only on 8 March.

Deputy Director General, Partnerships for Delivery, Kenton Dashiell, representing IITA Director General Simeon Ehui, reiterated IITA’s and the DG’s steadfast commitment to empowering women and enhancing their presence in decision-making roles within the Institute. He underscored the DG’s pride in IITA’s progress in empowering women and encouraged sustained support and mentorship for women colleagues, ensuring equal opportunities for success.
