IRRI expands rice research collaboration for developing and scaling new technologies and innovations for the rice sector in Vietnam

Hau Giang, Vietnam, December 13, 2023 – During the International Festival of Vietnam Rice Industry in Hau Giang, the significant collaboration between the Vietnam Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) and IRRI was extended to develop and scale new technologies and innovations for the advancement of the rice sector in Vietnam.
The recently signed Supplemental MOU aims to encompass new areas of collaboration and processes of the previous MOU with an emphasis on sustainable rice farming, low emissions, reducing chemical inputs, and increasing farmer profits. In particular, the MOU outlined six key areas of focus for collaboration:
The signing ceremony was attended and witnessed by leaders of MARD, international organizations, experts and scientists, and policymakers.
The Supplemental MOU strengthened the effort on sustainable development and low-emission rice cultivation for climate change adaptation which is crucial for achieving green, sustainable development goals, low emissions, and increased income for farmers. It would pave the way for enhanced collaboration in developing and scaling up new technologies and innovations for the rice sector in Vietnam.
