The CGIAR Research Initiative on the Diversification in East and Southern Africa, better known as Ukama Ustawi, will be hosting the Ukama Ustawi Pause and Reflect workshop from 5-9 February 2023 at ILRI Campus in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The workshops will bring the regional partners, other CGIAR Initiatives, and CGIAR Country Convenors from East and Southern Africa together to recapitulate 2023 and plan for impact in 2024. During the event, participants will have the chance to engage in interactive sessions designed to foster collaboration across WorkPackages, as well as cooperation with our partners and the CGIAR community to catalyze synergies for smallholder farmers in the region.

“True to the Afrocentric cultural worldview, in the tapestry of life, threads of collaboration weave the most resilient fabric. It is against this backdrop that the Ukama Ustawi will strive to reconnect the ‘Community of Spirit’ and the CGIAR community. The initiative aspires to have footprints in Eswatini, Ethiopia, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mozambique, Rwanda, Uganda, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe – and event such as these are critical to align and realign strategic endeavors, critically reflect on the past and affirm our relentless commitment to sharpening our initiative impact in 2024 to achieve climate resilience in farming communities,” says Nora Hanke-Louw, UU Project Coordinator, and Deputy Country Representative, IWMI South Africa.
