Viet nam uses the land-use planning for multiple environmental services framework for its provincial green-growth action plan

Lam Dong Province in Viet Nam’s Central Highlands makes the transition to a ‘green’ or sustainable economy guided by a green-growth action plan, developed thanks to the support of the Viet Nam team of World Agroforestry (ICRAF).

The team used the Land-Use Planning for Multiple Environmental Services (LUMENS) framework, which can model ecological and economic processes, to assess the impacts of various measures in all assessed sectors (except energy that uses other tool), and use this as the basis for developing the green-growth action plan for Lam Dong.

‘LUMENS was developed by ICRAF Indonesia and was the main tool used to develop green-growth action plans for several provinces, including South Sumatra, the plan of which was used as a reference point by the Viet Nam team,’ said Rachmat Mulia, ecological modeler with ICRAF Viet Nam. ‘LUMENS in Indonesia is mandated for land-use planning in all 34 provinces of the country by the Ministry of Development Planning.’
