El Financiero published an article in which IFPRI’s Director for Latin America and the Caribbean, Eugenio Díaz-Bonilla, posits that investments in science and technology can support sustainable agricultural development in the region. Bonilla suggests that science-based agricultural advances should not be solely geared towards enhancing productivity, but must also account for the environmental impacts associated with production. “We must reduce the level of energy, water, land that is needed to generate a unit of food, all that requires investment,” he said.
