In this interview, Rodomiro Ortiz, ISPC Member and Faculty (Chair) Professor of Genetics and Plant Breeding, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, explains why it is time for a change in the breeding mindset. Plant breeding is still relevant but the challenge today is looking beyond productivity at the whole value chain including resource use efficiency.
