Trade protectionism threatens poverty reduction, food security: report (xinhua)

Xinhua published an article which highlights the impacts on anti-globalism on trade and food security, as expressed in the 2018 Global Food Policy Report. The article cites IFPRI’s Director General, Shenggen Fan, and Senior Researcher, Joseph Glauber, who agree that anti-globalism and protectionism pose a considerable threat to the survival of existing food systems and trade relations. According to Fan, “these desires to roll back our open global systems threaten to slow progress toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals to end poverty and hunger by 2030.” Glauber also recommended that countries consult the WTO, to help resolve trade disputes, as trade wars can be detrimental.
